The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá is a small colonial village 50 km from Bogota. The first cathedral was built in the heart of the salt mine by miners in 1954. Threatened collapse, which was closed in 1992 for safety reasons. A new cathedral was opened December 16, 1995 (less than 200 meters underground) is the epitome of engineering and art sculptures contrast, shadows and lights, and allegories. The cathedral, which covers 8,500 m2 is divided into three sections: the way of the cross, dome and narthex and finally the great room.
